Barry Zito, LHP (0-8, 6.25) Giants (19-29) @ Scott Olsen, LHP (4-1, 2.82)
Marlins (27-19)
Scouting Report:
Giants: Zito was sloppy yet effective against the White Sox in his last start. Half of the 28 batters he faced reached base safely as he yielded eight hits and walked six in five innings. But somehow Zito allowed only two runs, though it wasn't enough to prevent yet another defeat. Zito will try to avoid enduring the same fate as Rod Beck, the last Giant to compile an 0-9 record -- all in relief -- in 1996. Zito is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in two career starts against Florida.
Marlins: Scott Olsen allowed three runs and walked five in a no-decision in his last outing against Kansas City on Saturday. The left-hander also allowed seven hits, and his velocity -- a concern in his previous outing -- did not top 88. He walked two batters in each of the first and third innings and struck out three batters total. Manager Fredi Gonzalez was happy with the performance, though, and said he would "take that from Olsen every time." Olsen has one win in his last five starts, but has pitched at least six innings in eight out of nine starts this season.

Matt Cain, RHP (2-3, 4.57) Giants (19-29) @ Burke Badenhop, RHP (1-3, 6.75) Marlins (27-19)
Scouting Report:
Giants: Cain experienced a strange afternoon last Sunday against the White Sox. He surrendered four home runs, including three in a span of seven batters, after no-hitting Chicago for 4 1/3 innings. The Giants proceeded to lose, 13-8, as Cain was charged with six runs in seven innings. Cain has recorded only four quality starts in 10 outings, while the Giants have posted a 4-6 record behind him.
Marlins: Badenhop threw a lot of strikes in his last start against the Royals on Sunday -- but those strikes were hit well. The 25-year-old threw 37 of his 56 pitches for strikes, but lasted only three innings after giving up six runs (five earned). Badenhop, who gave up seven hits and struck out two, gave up back-to-back two-out hits that resulted in two runs in the first inning. In the third, the rookie allowed three hits -- including a two-run homer -- and the Royals took an early five-run lead.

Pat Misch, LHP (0-0, 5.27) Giants (19-29) @ Mark Hendrickson, LHP (6-2, 3.72) Marlins (27-19)
Scouting Report:
Giants: Misch remains winless in 24 big league appearances spanning three seasons, including eight starts. The Giants haven't won a single one of his starts, although they're averaging only 2.25 runs per game behind him. Misch performed respectably at Colorado last Monday, yielding three runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings, as he received no decision. Misch has faced Florida only once, pitching a scoreless one-third of an inning in relief.
Marlins: Hendrickson knew going into his start against the D-backs -- the team that boasted the Major League's best ERA going into its series opener against the Marlins on Tuesday -- that runs were not going to come easy for his offense. But Hendrickson ended up giving his Fish just enough by going five innings while giving up one run on four hits and striking out seven. The outing, which saw the 33-year-old retire the first nine hitters he faced, gave Hendrickson his sixth win in his last seven decisions.
The Bear does not have a good feeling about this series. I see 1-2 with the Marlins taking the series. :(
