Friday, May 16 AT&T Park | 7:15 PM PT

Gavin Floyd, RHP (3-2, 3.32) White Sox (20-20) @ Jonathan Sanchez, LHP (2-2, 4.89) Giants (17-25)

Scouting Report:

White Sox: Floyd had his worst start, by far, of the season Sunday in a loss to Seattle. One start after his near no-hitter against Minnesota, he didn't even make it out of the fourth inning. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and five runs without a strikeout. The Giants will be the first National League team he has faced.

Giants: Sanchez did not finish the fifth inning for the second straight start, and he has a 10.38 ERA for his two starts in May. Against the Phillies on Sunday, he matched his career high with five walks. Two of those walks came around to score. He'll be making his first career appearance against the Chicago White Sox.

Saturday, May 17 AT&T Park | 6:05 PM PT

Mark Buehrle, LHP (1-5, 5.81) White Sox (20-20) @ Barry Zito, LHP (0-7, 6.58) Giants (17-25)

Scouting Report:

White Sox: The projected ace for the White Sox 2008 staff continues to struggle. He lost his fifth straight decision on Monday, falling to the Angels in a 10-7 final, and has not won since April 6 in Detroit. Buehrle allowed six earned runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings, but he deserved a better fate, as a couple of borderline plays in the field resulted in infield hits. Buehrle struck out six and walked one, also giving up a three-run blast to Vladimir Guerrero. Buehrle is 0-1 with a 16.62 ERA lifetime against the Giants.

Giants: Zito continued his march back toward respectability last Monday by allowing the hot-hitting Houston Astros three runs in six innings. He blanked Houston for five innings until Miguel Tejada's sacrifice fly and Lance Berkman's two-run homer tied the score. Zito exited the game after the sixth for a no-decision. In Zito's two starts since being sent to the bullpen to clear his head and work on some aspects of pitching, he has improved his aggressiveness in challenging hitters and has sharpened his location.

Sunday, May 18 AT&T Park | 1:05 PM PT

John Danks, LHP (3-3, 2.74) White Sox (20-20) @ Matt Cain, RHP (2-3, 4.17)
Giants (17-25)

Scouting Report:

White Sox: Danks allowed at least one baserunner in every inning that he worked during Tuesday night's loss to the Angels but only had two real jams over 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Danks walked two and struck out five, throwing 69 of his 99 pitches for strikes. He exited with the bases loaded and one out, but Octavio Dotel struck out Erick Aybar and Vladimir Guerrero to leave the left-hander with no decision. Danks has never faced the Giants and has a 0-1 record with a 5.77 ERA in three career Interleague starts against Florida, Houston and Philadelphia.

Giants: Cain is coming off one of his strongest outings of the season. Facing the Astros, winners of four games in a row and nine of their previous 10, Cain worked eight innings in a 4-2 Giants victory. Cain also hit his second home run of the season, lifting his batting average to .294 and his slugging percentage to .706. Cain is 2-5 in seven career Interleague starts, although one of them was a one-hit shutout at Oakland in May 2006 and another was a seven-inning effort in a 1-0 loss at Boston last June.

The Bear sees a possible 2-1 series win for the Giants. Possible is the KEY word. :beerbang:

I want to see how Sanchez pitches tonight. The kid has lights out stuff but struggles with his control often.

I'm still on the Sanchez band wagon although the Bear jumped off a long time ago after he previously proclaimed Sanchez the next Whitey Ford about 1-1/2 years ago.

That Bear is not a patient animal.

I think we all agree Sanchez has nasty stuff. And he has had some outstanding games this season. It's when he starts walking people early in the game when he get in trouble. :o

Sanchez had a very nice outing and got zero run support.

Get ready for the annual "June Swoon" coming in just a few days.

It's gonna get ugly.

Wow, the Giants got swept by the White Sox. It's been a bad 10 days for the Giants. This season is getting ugly in a hurry. The Giants are now 17-28 and have been outscored 159-218 (-59). That is just ugly. They are on pace for 101 losses which would break the all time franchise record. It's like 1985 all over again!

I checked the 1985 Giants record after 45 games. And guess what their record was? Yup, it was exactly 17-28.

The big difference between 1985 and 2008 is I think the Giants will get better as the season goes by, and the 1985 club never got better. But even if they do lose 101 games we will at least know we have hit rock bottom. No, I still think things are looking up. At least I hope so.;)

Well, the 1985 Giant had Will Clark and Robbie Thompson in the minors! :beerbang: But I do agree with you, Bear. I think the '08 team will get better.
