Have you proposed making up some merchandise, etc. to help promote the site? it's more so of getting the word out there and then word of mouth will have it's way. there's several other sports boards with plenty of giants fans, so it's just a matter of hinting and leading them over this way :beerbang:

Is it possible for you to develop this idea further?

for merchandise cafepress? I'd pick up a shirt if made or sweatshirt if it looks good ;) ...imagine wearing that to a game and how many different giants fans would see that. it's good advertising :)
then start making hints on these sites for instance?

CafePress? Nobody will see the merchandise unless they are on this site. And anybody who wants a SF Giants-Forum sweatshirt has to pay for it. I know all about CafePress Been there. Done that.
Appreciate the idea but that is more for a forum that is established and people are willing to actually pay for merchandise. Our problem is getting people to come here, join and participate., I for the life of me can't understand what is wrong with theis forum that people don't want to participate in a forum that is dedicated solely to their team. Whatever. Me, I hate baseball forums that are dedicated to all 32 ML teams. Talk about a big job. Tried that too -- it sucked.

Oh and one more thing...forums generally are not happy about others coming on their forums and advertising another forum -- for obvious reasons. Just sayin'.

well good luck then... just throwing out ideas :) i'd buy a shirt and sweatshirt, as I'm sure others would too. that's a lot of advertising at a baseball game ;)
...people will ask about it and I would tell :)

OK I have a better idea. How many Giants games do you attend? how about if I design and print up business size cards (really nice ones) with our forum name, logo and web addy on them and then you can hand them out at Giants games and see if that spurs some interest. That's what I can do for the cause. I'll donate 1,000.
In fact we can distribute the cards to anybody who is willing to hand them out at the Giants games!

This is a great idea, Kid! I would say just be careful and find out if there are are rules about distributing materials in or around AT&T Park. Teams can get really nasty if they see folks passing stuff out without the team's permission. I wouldn't want any SFGF folks getting rousted by team security. They can be pricks sometimes.

Tickets are enough that if someone asks, I should be able to say here is my business card. You r right tho, they probably wont like it much.

They can be pricks sometimes.A good point. I did it once for my football site some years ago. We passed them out (although the passers tired awfully quickly) in the parking lot at the Colli during all the tailgate parties pre-game. Don't think it would be problem but then you never know. Not sure how you'd go about getting "permission".

And now what happened to RrCoX22? He started this. :beerbang:

I'm looking for ways to expand our membership and participation. If handing out nice business cards advertising the site will help I'll do it for you guys but I need help. I'm up here in Seattle and can't do it myself.

i take the train up there and that thing is straight packed with giants fans for about 45mins and would give me easy access to hand out business cards and carry on a conversation if they think they would be active in a giants forum... since it's a quite controlled environment and not hectic and busy like at the park... although I don't know about quite/controlled since everyone drinks on the train up there and get's smashed legally :pound:

just curious... why is it such a big deal for this forum to close? if we're worried about members... why isn't it closed right now?
it takes time for a forum to progress, but the big key now a days on starting a forum is promoting and getting the word of mouth out there.
little curious on are we're not satisfied here with out current members? if we've been running this long with this setup why not continue? just because we want it to grow? obviously there's a little, tiny foundation of members here that don't seem like they're going to leave or go dead for awhile... obviously you guys and we don't want that. :)
just curious on the reasoning behind closing the doors? because there's no members? that doesn't make sense... let members register and let the community grow. I've also personally never seen a forum delete members just for not being active within the past month... that personally from my viewpoint doesn't send out a very good vibe. listen to your members... the first key to any successful forum.

I'd say the answer to your question is variety. After a while we all seem to understand and know what the other three are thinking. :D
We'll work on it bro!
