You'll never, ever see this kind of intrigue and interest in MLB. With one Sunday left in the regular season here are the NFL playoff implications (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ys-08playoffpicture&prov=yhoo&type=lgns). WOW.

No interest, my 49er's are not involved!:eek:But you're not a football fan. I'll watch every game I can as will about 100,000,000 people this Sunday.

I like football, but I am not as involved in the game to the same degree as you. That does not make me someone who is not a fan!:shakehead:

Sorry, Kid, baseball has pennant races. Or at least they did for a long time. Football doesn't have pennant races. Oh sure once in while there may be some crazy last weekend where there are like five teams vying for two playoff spot. But that's a poor substitute for a good old fashioned pennant race. Think of the 1993 NL West race. One of the most compelling and entertaining races ever, even though the Giants lost out. I do like football, even liked watching my 49ers starting to look like some semblance of a team with a future this season. But I'm not like one of those fans that paint their faces with their team colors, buy $250 team jersey, get drunk and get into fights at games, or spend all day Sunday watching 10 NFL games while slugging down a six pack of Schlitz and wolf down a large pepperoni pizza. Those kinds of fans are losers with no life.

So you think having 24 teams completely eliminated with no hope for post season is a good thing? Heh. That is why baseball has lost it's appeal. 162 games and the races are over before the final month of the season in most cases. Fans of the other 24 teams have moved onto something else for lack of interest. Baseball fans are in denial. Pure and simple. In the NFL there are 20 teams with a chance to get into the playoffs. I think that is the main difference between football and baseball (except the small amount of rabid baseball fans). The majority of football fans are just that -- fans of football. Baseball fans tend to be fans of a team for the most part. And, of course, I understand why. It just gets boring. You can put me in that category -- a causal baseball fan who is a fan of the Giants and nothing more to it.

Whatever. Just pointing it out. Do with the information as you see fit. And yeah I'm a loser with no life staying awake watching those games in stead of falling asleep watching the 159th of 162 baseball games. Wait I don't watch. *shrug*

I disagree with this point. I see so often people count a team with a "chance" to be in the playoff when in reality they are not. Yes, teams can have a mathematical chance but that doesn't mean it's a realistic chance. Shoot just a few weeks ago the airwaves were buzzing about the 49er being two games behind the Cardinals and having shot at the playoffs. That made me laugh. :pound: That was simply absurd. Also, saying that a bunch of 6-6 or 5-7 have playoff chances in ludicrous. Talk about parity with all those mediocre and crappy teams. That's what soured me on the NFL after years of watching.

Mc...look at the link I posted. That's how many teams have a chance. That is WHY there is so much interest. Look at the teams that have a chance on the last day of the season. Look at all the possibilities. That's what creates interest. Baseball doesn't come remotely close to creating that kind of interest. There are many possibilities this Sunday that are not that far fetched and even the far fetched allow their fans hope. One team loses another wins and another loses and the fans of the prevailing team are happy and are happy to follow ALL the games to see the outcomes. Not so in baseball. How many teams in baseball on the last day of the season have so many possibilities? None? One? I'm pointing all this out to show you why football is the most compelling game for the fans and why baseball is losing ground year by year. Football is just more interesting for the masses. And like football the baseball fanatic will say it's not true. That's denial. But for the masses it is true.

But I understand...the NFL is not for everybody but for the masses it is clearly the game of choice and these playoff possibilities on the final Sunday of the regular season is a big part of that.

Well I have never been one to go with the masses so I will say to one and all:

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

And leave you all with:

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Its one day a week to get away from all the bs life brings, no life to me is a groupie or someone who literally does nothing everyday. Come on man, do you watch only Giants games or can you watch a few games in a day? Sports fanatics have different ways of showing team spirit and sometimes they even live vicariously through the folks who had the talent to make the big time!
