Next up on the firing line is Ron Washington, manager of the 8-16 Texas Rangers. His fate is being decided this weekend in a series of meetings among team owner Tom Hicks and new president Nolan Ryan according to the New York Daily News.

In the case of Washington, whose Rangers have gotten off to a dreadful, worst-in-baseball start after finishing last in the AL West at 75-87 in his first season as manager in '07, his firing would seem inevitable although, to be fair, his boss, GM Jon Daniels, has done an abysmal job of acquiring any kind of decent pitching in his own three years on the job.

This guy is one of my favorites, and I hope he keeps his job. If not I hope he gets a new one quickly.

Isn't the "story" with the Rangers always the same, no pitching?

Yes, and is this Washington's fault of the GM's? The GM and ownership are responsible for the players Washington has to work with. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken soup.:nono:

No, not having any pitching is not Washington's fault. They just lost Blalock and I still don't understand why they traded Mark Teixeira last season. He was their best hitter and a Gold Glove first baseman. I don't get it.

I think Teixeira had told them that he wanted to leave and would not resign with the Rangers. Better to get something than to get nothing.;)
