View Full Version : Pat Burrell
It was reported in the Boston Globe that the Giants are interested in Pat Burrell. Do you like this idea and where would you play Mr. Burrell if he becomes a Giant?
My guess is he would be installed at first base with Sandoval moving to third. This would give us another bat without breaking the bank and would keep the pitching staff intact for the present time.;)

Burrell is a solid player but he has only played first base in 58 games all which came in his rookie year. The Phillies quickly realized Burrell can't handle first base. He's a stiff with the glove. He is also a poor baserunner and often goes into long slumps. He's always been extremely streaky. Check out his '08 splits.
1st half :.275/.404/.575, 23 HRs, 57 RBI, 49 R
2nd half: .215/.313/.413, 10 HRs, 29 RBI, 25 R
In '07 it was in reverse.
1st half: .215/.378/.408, 11 HRs, 37 RBI, 32 R
2nf half: .295/.420/.590, 19 HRs, 60 RBI, 45 R
I can't understand how a hitter can be so good for half a season then just tank it the other half? I guess it depends on how much he wants but he's going want $12-$13 million per season easy.

We hear this all the time, mostly because Burrell is a northern California native. He won't come here unless no one else wants him. He knows that ATT Park would reduce his power numbers considerably. And he is now no more than ordinary as a defensive outfielder.
