Here's a neat article about Danny Almonte and a player, named Matthew Cerda, he faced during the Little League World Series back in 2001. The article tracks how their lives have turned out since they faced each other in Williamsport. While Almonte was overage, Cerda was the youngest player in the tournament that year.

I think this story shows how having two loving parents can really help a kid out. We saw both of Cerda's parents on the video and I like how Cerda's mom would even video tape Matt taking batting practice! How many moms would do that? On the other side Danny's dad was a complete jerk for falsifying his birth certifcate and I don't think Danny even talks to him much anymore.
As for Cerda, he's in the Rookie Arizona League doing pretty good. (.279/.373/.380). Not bad for a young 18 year old in his first professional season. I bet he makes it to the major leagues within a few years.
