PHOENIX -- The D-backs acquired outfielder Adam Dunn from the Reds on Tuesday in exchange for Minor League pitcher Dallas Buck and two players to be named later.
Arizona claimed Dunn on waivers and was able to work out a trade with Cincinnati.
In 114 games, the 28-year-old is tied for the Major League lead with 32 homers. The right fielder is hitting .233 on the season with 74 RBIs, an on-base percentage of .373 and a slugging percentage of .528.
Dunn, who is eligible for free agency after making $13 million this year, figures to boost an Arizona offense that has been an Achilles' heel at times for the club this year. The D-backs have been without the services of right fielder Justin Upton, who went on the disabled list July 9 with a strained oblique muscle. They also lost their starting left fielder in Eric Byrnes prior to that with a torn hamstring.
The D-backs suffered another blow Saturday when second baseman Orlando Hudson was lost to a season-ending wrist injury.
Buck was selected in the third round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft and underwent Tommy John surgery last year. He returned to action a couple of months ago and went 1-4 with a 3.94 ERA in nine games (eight starts) for Class A South Bend. The right-hander was promoted to Arizona's high-A ball team in Visalia earlier this month and in his lone start allowed three unearned runs in five innings.
Your thoughts? Was everyone out to lunch when this guy passed through waivers in the Giants front office? 28 years old, and a power left-handed hitter. Is this not what the Giants need?
Thoughts? Back to the ignore list. Bad Bear. I'll check back in about a month.
