Jair Jurrjens, RHP (10-6, 3.06) Braves (51-60) @ Matt Cain, RHP (6-9, 3.70) Giants (46-64)

Scouting Report:

Braves: Jurrjens continued his impressive rookie season while allowing three earned runs and seven hits in seven innings against the Cardinals on Wednesday. But the 22-year-old right-hander lost for the second time in the three starts he's made since the All-Star break. He has pitched at least seven innings in five of his last seven starts. This will be his first career appearance against the Giants.

Giants: Cain pitched superbly in July, recording a 2.09 ERA in six outings. All but one was a quality start and he pitched shutout ball in three of them, including a complete-game effort July 24 against Washington. In Cain's last start, he surrendered two runs in seven innings in a 2-0 loss at Los Angeles. Cain threw 89 strikes among a season-high 118 pitches in that one and walked none for the second start in a row, the first time in his career that he has managed this feat.

Tuesday, August 5 AT&T Park | 7:15 PM PT

Mike Hampton, LHP (0-0, 10.00) Braves (51-60) @ Jonathan Sanchez, LHP (8-7, 4.61) Giants (46-64)

Scouting Report:

Braves: Hampton still hasn't regained the form he had before his injury woes began in 2005. But while making his first two starts since then, he has at least proven durable and capable of being successful in the Majors. While allowing the Cardinals four earned runs in five innings on Thursday, he showed inconsistent control with his sinker. Still, he thought his command was better than it had been five days earlier in Philadelphia.

Giants: Sanchez just finished a month he'd like to forget. After sailing in June (5-1, 3.10 ERA), he struggled in July (0-3, 8.57 ERA). He failed to last more than 5 1/3 innings in any of his five starts during the month and battled control problems, walking 16 in 21 innings. The Braves treated Sanchez rudely in his two relief appearances against them last year, as he absorbed a defeat and recorded a 10.13 ERA.

Wednesday, August 6 AT&T Park | 12:45 PM PT

Chuck James, LHP (2-4, 9.47) Braves (51-60) @ Tim Lincecum, RHP (11-3, 2.71) Giants (46-64)

Scouting Report:

Braves: While allowing the Brewers six earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings during his return from the Minors on Friday, James didn't provided much reason for optimism. He surrendered a pair of homers and issued four walks. In his past 15 Major League starts, he has gone 5-6 with a 7.29 ERA, issued 29 walks and allowed 24 homers. Plagued by inconsistent control and the inability to develop a third pitch, he's far from being the same pitcher who won 11 games both of the past two seasons.

Giants: Lincecum recorded his fifth double-digit strikeout total and second in a row in his last start, collecting 11 at San Diego Friday. He received his second consecutive no-decision despite leaving with a 2-1 lead after seven innings. It marked the sixth time the bullpen has blown a lead it inherited from Lincecum, who's 3-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 10 starts at AT&T Park. Lincecum started twice against Atlanta last year and won both, although his ERA against the Braves was 4.09.

The Bear is hoping that this is a break out series with a sweep. However I would be happy with 2 out of 3!:)

Lincecum had another excellent outing. I know this is way early but how long has it been since the Giants had such a dominating young starter? Juan Marichal?

Atlee Hammaker in the first half of the 1983 season. Before the All-Star break he was unbeatable.:(
