Tim Lincecum, RHP (11-3, 2.78) Giants (44-63) @ Josh Banks, RHP (3-4, 3.92) Padres (42-67)
Scouting Report:
Giants: Despite allowing two runs, Lincecum was as close to untouchable in his last outing as he ever has been. In seven innings, he fanned a career-high 13 batters, mowing down one D-back after another. For the first time since June 6, he didn't walk any batters, but, alas, the Giants bullpen faltered and kept Lincecum from earning the win. Considering he was sub-par in his previous start and had missed the All-Star game because of the flu a few days before that, Bay Area fans were more than pleased with Lincecum's dominance.
Padres: Banks faced the Giants on May 31, pitching a six-hit shutout with five strikeouts. He's struggled since then, though, pitching through the sixth inning only twice in eight starts.

Barry Zito, LHP (5-13, 5.80) Giants (44-63) @ Greg Maddux, RHP (4-8, 4.29) Padres (42-67)
Scouting Report:
Giants: The Zito roller coaster took a dive in the lefty's previous outing. After three affective innings, Zito surrendered four runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth. Early on, Zito showed a good curveball and was locating his fastball, but he lost his control in the fourth, when he needed 42 pitches to retire the side. The loss kept Zito from winning his third consecutive decision.
Padres: It took him 15 starts, but Greg Maddux finally picked up career victory No. 351 in his last start against Arizona on July 28. Maddux had gone 14 consecutive starts without a victory, the longest winless stretch of his storied career. Maddux did allow four runs on nine hits in five innings against the Diamondbacks, and he was far from being exceptionally sharp, though he did maintain the lead. There's some question as to whether Maddux makes this start or not as he's rumored to being moved on or before the July 31 Trade Deadline.

Kevin Correia, RHP (2-5, 5.80) Giants (44-63) @ Chris Young, RHP (4-4, 4.12) Padres (42-67)
Scouting Report:
Giants: Correia broke a personal four-decision losing streak and picked up his first victory since April 10 despite an unimpressive pitching line Monday in Los Angeles. He worked 5 1/3 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits, but the Giants, after jumping to a 7-0 lead, held on for a 7-6 win. Correia has walked none in 11 innings spanning his last two starts, which could be a sign of improvement. The San Diego native is 1-0 with a 4.44 ERA in 15 career appearances against the Padres.
Padres: Young looked sharp in his last start on July 29 which just so happened to be his first start since May 21 when he took an Albert Pujols line drive off his face. Young, who needed two surgeries to repair facial fractures and a deviated septum, struck out six of the first seven Arizona hitters he faced. All told, he struck out eight in five innings -- he was on a pitch count of roughly 90 pitches -- and allowed two hits and two walks in five scoreless innings. He'll likely get more pitches to work with against the Giants.
My hope is the Giants can take at least 2 out of 3! :beerbang:
