Monday, July 28 Dodger Stadium | 7:10 PM PT

Kevin Correia, RHP (1-5, 5.71) Giants (43-61) @ Hiroki Kuroda, RHP (5-7, 3.98) Dodgers (52-52)

Scouting Report:

Giants: Correia emerged with a no-decision from his last outing against Washington, although he blanked the Nationals for four innings. He yielded an unearned run in the fifth before crumbling in the sixth, when he allowed three runs. The one big inning has been Correia's undoing for much of the season. Still, he called this game one of his best of the year, particularly since it followed a 3 2/3-inning, seven-run effort at Chicago.

Dodgers: Kuroda had another wobbly beginning, following up his two-inning start in Arizona by allowing five runs over the first three innings at Coors Field. As bad as it sounds, he was victimized by some flukey hits and he stopped the damage there, finishing up with three scoreless innings. This start against the Giants should indicate which is the real Kuroda.

Tuesday, July 29 Dodger Stadium | 7:10 PM PT

Matt Cain, RHP (6-8, 3.82) Giants (43-61) @ Jason Johnson, RHP (0-0, 2.57)
Dodgers (52-52)

Scouting Report:

Giants: Cain will be hard-pressed to duplicate his previous outing, a four-hit shutout against Washington. He fashioned his gem largely by issuing no walks for only the third start of his career. Cain has never beaten the Dodgers, posting an 0-4 record against them with a 5.30 ERA lifetime. This year, he pitched 5 2/3 innings at Dodger Stadium in an April 1 no-decision before losing to L.A. on July 6, when he surrendered five runs and eight hits in six innings.

Dodgers: Johnson will make his first start with the Dodgers after allowing two runs in seven innings in two long-relief outings since being called up after the All-Star break. He was originally supposed to start July 22 against the Rockies before the Dodgers called up rookie Clayton Kershaw from Double-A. Johnson, who pitches with an insulin pump, has started 214 Major League games and gone 55-98 with a 4.98 in his career, earning a reputation as an innings eater. He may get a second start on Sunday but will likely be bumped when Brad Penny returns to the rotation, which could happen as early as Aug. 5.

Wednesday, July 30 Dodger Stadium | 7:10 PM PT

Jonathan Sanchez, LHP (8-6, 4.46) Giants (43-61) @ Chad Billingsley, RHP (10-9, 3.26) Dodgers (52-52)

Scouting Report:

Giants: In the second inning of his last start, Sanchez allowed more runs (five) than he previously surrendered in any game since June 12. Following a quick first frame, the lefty walked two, gave up a single and three doubles in the second. He was pulled in the third after throwing 81 pitches (46 strikes). Sanchez's breaking ball wasn't breaking, and, alas, he tallied just two strikeouts

Dodgers: Billingsley provided a much-needed quality start for his club on Friday, surrendering just two runs on five hits and three walks, while notching four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings against the Nationals. In the process, he improved his record to 10-9.

Looks like 1 out of 3, but one can hope for 2 out of 3!;)

Ummm...f&^k the Dodgers. Giants had a 7-0 lead and barely held on. But a win is a win.

Giants win. Giants win. :D

The Giants had given Matt Cain the third-worst run support in the National League at just over three runs a game, but they couldn't muster even a single run to back him as he held the Dodgers to two runs, one unearned after a controversial umpires' ruling.

Dodgers 2 Giants 0! Giants suck, and there just is no other way to say it!:(

Omar....not a good night, Roberts....why? other than to show the rest of the league that he sucks. As a 49er fan also, there is always next year to look forward to. New players, new attitude. Let's bring Barry back!

Giants lose 4-0 and limp out of LA. ?'The Giants lack of hitting is getting to the Bear. I think I may be sick. :puke:

In July, Matt Cain made six starts.

43 IP, 9 ER, 41 K, 14 BB, 1.88 ERA, 1.069 WHIP.

For his fine work, Cain ended up wit ha 2-3 record.

Very frustrating. Two shut outs in three games.

I'm just not sure where the Giants go from here. They're MLB's version of the L.A. Clippers or the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals from years gone by. Ugh.

It is hard to watch the team suck like this. As a faithful fan of the Giants, as well as baseball, you just suck it up and watch the game. There is usually one thing good about the Giants each game (except these two last series). This allows for hope in the future. Rebuilding happens to a lot of clubs, its our turn.

I am just trying to make myself think postively.... it's not working.

Guys,

Just accept the fact the Giants suck this year. That is the reality. The losing doesn't really bother since I already knew in spring training they would be this bad. I don't even focus on the wins and losses per se. I focus on the development of the young players. Lincecum has become one of the best pitchers in the NL. Cain is this close to being on Lincecum's level. He just needs to be more consistent. And it would help if the Giants would score more runs for him. Fred lewis is coming along nicely. I am really excited about Pablo Sandoval. He should be up with the Giants in September.

With the way this club is playing the starting pitchers must really be depressed. They know they have to go out there and pitch lights out. They can't afford to give up more than 2 runs in a game and sometimes even that is too much. Can't be fun to be a pitcher on this ball club. I feel for Cain, Sanchez and Lincecum.

The losing is getting old. The problem is there really doesn't seem to be a lot of hope for '09. And, I am sick of them running the old man out there at SS. What's the point? And Dave Roberts hitting a buck sixty is playing again. WTF. Get rid of those clowns.

If the Giants are going to contend in the near future they'll have to build the team through the draft. I was checking out the 2007 Baseball America Prospects Handbook the other day. Of the top eight or so prospects seven are now in the majors. That's a good sign for sure. Other than perhaps Pablo Sandoval and Angel Villalona the Giants do lack blue chip future all-star caliber prospects. They need to develop more of those those kind of players.

The Giants have not been good at developing players. Remember the Dodger days when every player they brought up won the Rookie of the Year award. Question: Who was the last Giant who won Rookie of the Year and when?

The Giants have not been good at developing players.
Like I said before, seven of the eight top prospects according to Baseball America in 2007 are with the big club now. That's pretty good.

Remember the Dodger days when every player they brought up won the Rookie of the Year award. Winning the RoY is not that impressive. The following players were Rookie of the Year winners

Ron Kittle
Scott Williamson
Joe Charboneau
Jerome Walton
Pat Listach
Bob Hamilen
Ben Grieve
Angel Berroa
Ozzie Guillen
Todd Hollandsworth

These guys were hardly great players or even good players for any length of time.

As for the Dodger's nine RoY under Tommy Lasorda:

Rick Stucliff
Steve Howe
Fernando Valenzuela
Steve Sax
Eric Karros
Mike Piazza
Raul Mondesi
Hideo Nomo
Todd Hollandsworth

How may of these players were consistent All-Stars? Other than Piazza the others were not really special players.

Question: Who was the last Giant who won Rookie of the Year and when? The SF Giants have had four Rookies of the Year since 1958.

John Montefusco, 1975.
Gary Matthews, 1973
Willie McCovey, 1960
Orlando Cepeda, 1959
