At the mid-way point in the 2008 season how do you see this club? With the trading deadline coming up who would you move? What players would you keep, and build around. Who would be getting the playing time for the remainder of the season? These are questions that the Giants need to address, and I would be interested in how you would shape the club at this point. My thoughts are basic, and simple. First, I would listen to all offers for players over 35 years old, and even those players over 30. Time is not on their side and in two years will they be able to help this club. Second, Lewis would be playing ALL the time. This kid is for real, and needs the time. If you want to play other young outfielders sit Winn. He will not be here when we have a playoff club. I know its hard to do but its time to start to get more time for the young infielders. So what are you thinking? Lets see if we can come to a meeting of minds on how we as a forum would build this team.:)

I think it is too early to make the call. Never expected to be saying this, but

1. Zito pitched a good game tonight

and

2. the Giants are unbelievably only 5 1/2 games out.

Flashback to June 25, 2000:

Marvin Benard led off in CF and went 4 for 5. Russ Ortiz got a W and Nen the save. The club was 4 1/2 games out and went on to win the division.

If they stay within 6 games, they have to play for this year. In that case, I'd keep Winn and move Durham for a LH reliever.

If they move to 7-8 games out, then, move Winn, Durham and Yabu for prospects, call up Schierholz. Release Roberts and Aurilia.

Arizona is showing their early season heroics were a sham. They're one game over .500.

I guess hope springs eternal. With the Giants BIG three they could make a little noise in the NL West.

As for Barry Zito don't jump on that band wagon quite yet. Let's see him win 3-4 in a row before even considering he's worth a shit. Come on. This guy is throwing an 80 (or worse) mile an hour fast ball and he's no Jamie Moyer in the control department.

Fastball topped out at 88 mph last night! Speedy Zito!!

So he was around 80-83 in reality the rest of the night.

Too bad he didn't rip up his rotator cup with that blazing 88 mph pitch.

Aurilla is batting .289. He is healthy and has respectible numbers. Let the SF favorite end his career here. He is not one to complain if sitting on the bench. He is not going to get the team anyone of value in a trade.

I don't want the Giants to "make noise" in the NL West. Let's say they somehow get to .500 and are like 4 games out. Idiot Sabean will then trade away good prospects for some retreads to try to get to the postseason. I don't want the Giants to make the postseason with like a 82-80 record. That is a disgrace to the postseason. And if the Giants trade top prospects away and don't reach the post season then Sabean has set the team back three years. Again. The '08 Giants are a poor team. They have been outscored by 42 runs. They don't deserve to be in the postseason by any means.

But if they stay competitive, people will come to the park and watch. This will excite Sabe's to maybe put a team out there next year. I do agree that they should not be in the playoffs, and it would be a long shot at that. We have not even hit the All Star break yet. Injuries, Zito, and veteran trades for prospects are still to possibilities.

This is the point I have been trying to make since the end of April. Making the playoffs only to lose in the first series means nothing and brings false hope. Lets keep to the plan and not trade any young players for now.:beerbang:
