The Giants don't really have any youngsters with the big club. They do have some youngsters in the minors that I do like, Angel Villalona and Pablo Sandoval. Sandoval is having a great season at San Jose, hitting

.361/.413/.590, 11 HR, 55 RBI, 60 R in 66 games.

Villalona is showing great improvement.

April: .213/.273/.325
May: .250/.299/.460
June: .281/.351/.531

The kid is clearly learning fast. He's the youngest player in South Atlantic League and this kind of progress is a great sign for the future.

By Giant standards there are many youngsters. You may not see it that way but anyone under 30 on the Giants roster is young compared to what we have seen in the past.

I guess I define "youngster" as a ballplayer either in the minors or a ballplayer in the majors who is 25/26 and under and who has not yet established himself as a starter.

1. Fred Lewis: Watching him in today's game, second AB, has a great eye, takes a lot of pitches, then w/ 2 strikes, lines a double to left center. This guy is a professional hitter.

2. Bowker: Has some good power. Could turn into a solid major leaguer.

3. Bocock and Burris: Both surprised me with their ability to play superb d at the major league level. Teach either one to hit and we might have something there.
