Matt Cain, RHP (3-5, 4.39) Giants (31-42) @ Luke Hochevar, RHP (4-5, 4.66) Royals (31-42)
Scouting Report:
Giants: Cain struck out 11 batters in his last start, a seven-inning outing against Oakland, but allowed three runs and received no support from his offense. He lost the decision despite setting a season-high strikeout total -- the last time he fanned 11 was August 3, 2007, against the Padres. The Giants haven't scored more than three runs for Cain since May 24, four starts ago. His record is suffering because of it.
Royals: Hochevar harnessed the best in the National League West on Saturday, winning at Arizona. Despite 10 hits, Hochevar permitted just three runs -- two earned -- in large part thanks to a no-walk performance. He went seven innings to end a month-long victory drought. Previously the most run-deprived pitcher in the Majors (2.15 per nine innings), he had the unusual luxury of a huge lead -- it was 12-3 when he departed. This is the rookie's first game against the Giants.

Kevin Correia, RHP (1-4, 5.17) Giants (31-42) @ Gil Meche, RHP (4-8, 5.12) Royals (31-42)
Scouting Report:
Giants: Through three innings of shutout work, Correia looked every bit the pitcher the Giants hoped he would be in his return from the disabled list. But he allowed one run in the fourth before really coming undone in the sixth, giving up four runs to take the loss. Correia was sharp early, making his pitches and showing no signs of the strained left side that put him on the DL on April 26. He ended the day with just two walks after throwing 53 of 88 pitches for strikes, but the Giants staked him with just one run of support.
Royals: Meche got his first victory in a month on Sunday at Arizona, stopping the Diamondbacks on three runs and four hits in 7 1/3 innings. He changed tactics, attacking with his fastball especially early in the game, instead of relying too heavily on his wicked curveball. The strategy worked and he piled up 10 strikeouts while issuing just one walk. He's had excellent games back-to-back. Against the Giants, Meche won his only start on June 17, 2006, when he went the distance in an 8-1 win for the Mariners.

Tim Lincecum, RHP (8-1, 2.21) Giants (31-42) @ Kyle Davies, RHP (3-0, 1.46) Royals (31-42)
Scouting Report:
Giants: After opening the season with 15 consecutive quality starts (at least six innings, no more than three earned runs) Lincecum's run finally came to an end against Detroit in his last start. He allowed four runs in seven innings and struck out only three batters. The Giants managed to pick up the victory, 8-6, but Lincecum allowed two home runs to Marcus Thames. Lincecum previously had pitched 42 2/3 innings without allowing a homer.
Royals: Davies has been a revelation since arriving from an early-season stay with Triple-A Omaha. So far he's made four starts and held the opposition to one run in each outing. On Tuesday night at St. Louis, he held the Cardinals to five hits and one run in seven innings. Always wary of a control lapse, he walked three but was able to pitch around those glitches. Davies looks like the pitcher the Royals thought they were getting in last year's deadline trade with the Braves.
I look for a big weekend for the Giants with a possible sw...! We have two of are three studs going in this series so there is hope!:beerbang:
