Justin Verlander, RHP (3-9, 4.65) Tigers (32-37) @ Tim Lincecum, RHP (8-1, 1.99) Giants (30-40)
Scouting Report:
Tigers: Almost a year to the day after his no-hitter, Verlander tossed his first complete game since then with a four-hit performance over the White Sox, a team that has generally roughed up the young right-hander over his brief career. He needed just 101 pitches to do it, efficiently earning first-pitch popups by spotting his fastball. The Tigers are hoping it's the trigger for another June roll just in time for them to make up some ground from their slow start. It's also just in time for Interleague Play, in which Verlander is 7-0 in seven career starts with a 1.99 ERA and 48 strikeouts over 49 2/3 innings.
Giants: Lincecum was typically effective in his last outing, blanking Colorado for seven innings while striking out nine. As if for emphasis, Lincecum ended five innings with strikeouts, often by coaxing the Rockies to flail at his curveball. He has made 15 consecutive quality starts dating back to 2007 and owns a four-decision winning streak, his second of the season. When Lincecum works at least six innings, he's 13-4 with a 2.46 ERA in his career.

Kenny Rogers, LHP (4-4, 4.63) Tigers (32-37) @ Jonathan Sanchez, LHP (6-3, 4.26) Giants (30-40)
Scouting Report:
Tigers: Rogers had his longest outing of the season against the White Sox his last time out. He lasted eight innings, giving up one earned run on four hits. The 43-year-old has pitched at least seven innings in each of his past four starts. He had some of his best command of the season, throwing strikes on 67 of his 96 pitches. Rogers has had six starts against the Giants in his 19-year career, the last one occurring in 2001. In those starts, he has allowed a combined 27 runs on 43 hits in 37 innings.
Giants: Sanchez isn't the Giants' biggest winner -- that distinction belongs to Tim Lincecum -- but they've been most successful when he pitches, compiling an 11-3 mark when he starts. In last Thursday's series finale at Colorado, Sanchez won his fourth consecutive decision despite allowing seven runs and nine hits. He became the first Giants starter to record a victory while allowing at least that many runs since May 21, 2000, when Russ Ortiz surrendered 10 runs in a 16-10 win at Milwaukee. Nevertheless, Sanchez has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 11 of his 14 outings.

Armando Galarraga, RHP (6-2, 3.31) Tigers (32-37) @ Barry Zito, LHP (2-10, 5.88) Giants (30-40)
Scouting Report:
Tigers: Galarraga gave up no runs on three hits in his last start, though two hits came after the ball hit him in the foot and skewed into foul ground for infield singles. After the second one drilled his foot in the sixth inning, the team's trainer ran out to the mound to check Galarraga. He sat on the infield grass, holding his right lower leg in pain at one point, but he collected himself and finished the outing. The Tigers improved to 8-2 in games he starts. Galarraga has never faced the Giants in his short career. However, he has two impressive outings this season in Interleague Play.
Giants: Zito walked more batters (four) than he struck out (three) in his last start, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Athletics, his former team. He was one pitch away from a quality start, but walked in a run on a 3-2 count in the sixth inning before being pulled. He allowed three runs in a three-hit, one-walk third inning, and lasted less than six for the ninth time this season. After facing just six batters in the fourth and fifth innings, Zito began losing steam and elevating his pitches in the sixth frame.
The Bear hopes for 2 out of 3 in this series!:boxing:
