Monday, June 2nd, 7:15 PM PT - - - AT&T Park

Oliver Perez, LHP (4-3, 4.83) - New York Mets (28-27)

Jonathan Sanchez, LHP (3-3, 4.26) - San Francisco Giants (24-33)

Scouting Report:
METS: For his fourth straight start, Perez's pitch count hit the century mark on Wednesday. Three of those tosses were big mistakes -- two homers by Marlins outfielder Cody Ross and another by catcher Mike Rabelo. Perez didn't relinquish much, though, until in his sixth and final inning, as he surrendered three runs to force his second consecutive no decision. That's 210 pitches in two no-decisions.

GIANTS: Sanchez ended a streak of five consecutive winless starts last Wednesday in an 11-3 triumph at Arizona. He blanked the Diamondbacks for five innings, then left the game after surrendering two runs in the sixth. Sanchez has been relying on a sinking fastball to neutralize hitters. It's a pitch he said he was told to abandon as a Minor Leaguer in 2004, but he resumed using it earlier this season.

Tuesday, June 3rd, 7:15 PM PT - - - AT&T Park

Pedro Martinez, RHP (0-0, 10.80) - New York Mets (28-27)

Barry Zito, LHP (1-8, 5.53) - San Francisco Giants (24-33)

Scouting Report:
METS: He strained his left hamstring after 3 1/3 innings of his season debut, but now, after nearly two months of rehab, Martinez is ready to return. Because the injury affected only his leg, Martinez was able to keep his right arm in relatively good shape while rehabbing in Port St. Lucie, Fla. So when he takes the mound against the Giants, he shouldn't have any problems with his velocity or endurance. The Giants were a different team when Martinez last faced them back in 2004. That also marked his only career appearance at AT&T Park, and he allowed four runs in six innings.

GIANTS: Zito pitched respectably in his last outing but received a no-decision in a 4-3 victory at Arizona. Justin Upton, mired in a 1-for-29 skid, homered and lashed an RBI triple to nag Zito, who lasted six innings and allowed three runs for his fifth quality start in 11 outings. Zito excelled last year against the Mets, who reportedly were interested in him when he became a free agent following the 2006 season. He won both of his starts against New York, recording a 2.08 ERA.

Wednesday, June 4th, 12:15 PM PT - - - AT&T Park

John Maine, RHP (5-4, 3.66) - New York Mets (28-27)

Matt Cain, RHP (2-3, 4.38) - San Francisco Giants 24-33)
http://drucifer.net/PhotoFiles/Baseball/Players/CAIN_Matt_P_Giants_500x135.jpg

Scouting Report:
METS: Maine struggled early against the Dodgers on Friday night at Shea Stadium. After opening the game with four straight balls to put Juan Pierre on base, he gave up three hits and three runs in the first inning to give L.A. the quick advantage. But Maine bounced back, surrendering just two hits and one run through the next five innings to come away with a no-decision. In 101 pitches, he recorded six strikeouts and one walk. Maine impressed manager Willie Randolph with his ability to settle down and find his rhythm.

GIANTS: Cain struggled in the third frame of his previous outing, allowing three runs against the Padres, but ended up lasting through the seventh without surrendering another score. Not bad, considering he was hit on the right forearm in the first inning by a Brian Giles line drive. Alas, he had nothing to show for his effort, leaving with six strikeouts but no decision. It was the third time in 2008, and the sixth time since 2006, that Cain faced Greg Maddux, against whom he has an 0-3 record. The right-hander has allowed three runs or less in six of his last eight outings.

Thanks Mac. If I have time I can do this, but it will not happen every series.;)

Giants lead 10-2 through 7 innings. Sanchez has allowed 2 ER, has 8 Ks, and 3 B. He's thrown 112 pitches so I think he's through for the night. A very solid outing. Sanchez is pretty solid for a #3 guy isn't he?

Bear

To me he is looking like a #2. But that is just the Bear's point of view.;)

Finally the Bear does something interesting. Good job for a Bear.

And no Sanchez is not a #2 -- Matt Cain is the #2. Sheese. Don't hurt yourself when you fall off the band wagon. :p

Man, Zito sucks! Six hits and five walks through 5 innings! :rolleyes:I'm numb to that. It's normal for that clown. Man, what a mistake. Nothing can be done about it and their little game to move him to the bull pen was never really serious. Ugh.

It's time to start thinking about eating his contract!

Yeah but it's hard with 5+ years to go. Maybe after next season they'll have to just man up and cut the bastard.

I can't imagine the Giants just eating the $100 million or so left on the Zito's contract. :( That is A LOT of money to just throw away.

It's easy for the fans to say get rid of him but yeah that is a lot of money to piss away. Won't happen. Not this soon.

I left todays game early because Cain sucks. If we get a good offer for this guy we need to look long and hard.

Now to Mr. Zito. We pissed that money away the moment we signed him. What do you guys want? To watch him go 3-17. this guy is done, and I am afraid Cain is done from the mental side too. What a shame.:(

Giants lose 5-3. The Mets take the series. The Giants complete the home-stand at 2-4. Their home record is a dismal 13-19:(

It's kind of early to give up a 23 year pitcher isn't it, Bear? Yes, Cain is stuggling with his control but that doesn't mean his career is over. Let's give Cain the rest of the season to get his act together. I still have faith in the young man. Besides it's not like we have someone better to replace him with anyway.

No, but if and offer comes in, and it is for a position player with pop we need to look. Last year he was untouchable. I don't think that is the case now, and we must all realize it. We do have some very good young arms down on the farm, and I think there are a few in the pen who deserve a shot.

No you don't give up on a guy like Cain at 23 this quickly. Memories are short. The guy was virtually un-hittable the first 1/3 of 2007. Did he just wake up in April and forget how to pitch? Nah. He's gonna have to work through this. It won't be the first time in baseball history that a young pitcher has gone backwards for a period of time. And if we traded him and he blows up somewhere else the Bear will be there first one to be pissed. ;)

:(Settle down.

But in all fairness I looked at the box score and Cain got absolutely hammered again today!

Besides it's not like we have someone better to replace him with anyway. That's my point. We're not gonna g et it done with only Timmy and Sanchez. Cain will have to step up and be the guy. Plus the news about Lowery doesn't make things look andy better for the starting rotation.

Everybody just calm down (Bear).
