Giants longest hitting streaks

With Buster Posey currently on a 15 game hitting streak it got me thinking what is the Giants' record for the longest hitting streak? I found a list that has every 30+ game hitting streak. There are no San Francisco Giants on the list but there was one NY Giant. George Davis had a 33 game hitting streak in 1893. Wow that is a long time ago. I guess this is Giants franchise record. I'll keep looking for the San Francisco Giants record.

Ok, I found out that Jack Clark had a 26 game hitting streak in 1978. Clark's streak is also the longest streak in franchise history since 1900.

Well this "SF kid" once had a 56 game hitting streak in the majors and a 61 game hitting streak in the minors. :)

This is what I've been able to ascertain about Giants (N.Y. and S.F.) hitting streaks. All the information is from Tim Kawakami, written after the game a couple of days ago.

As I write this, Posey's hitting streak is up to 21.

And I don't know if these are ALL the longest hitting streaks, or only the ones that Kawakami mentioned:


Randy Winn 20 games (2007)
Robby Thompson 21 games (1993) most recent Giants streak of this length
Willie Mays 21 games (twice, 1954 & 1957) these are Mays' longest hit-streaks
Willie McCovey 22 games (1959) franchise record for a rookie
Jack Clark 26 games (1978) S.F. record
Charles Hickman 27 games (1900)
George Davis 33 games (1893)

I'm not sure that the longest "modern era" hitting streak in N.Y. was the one by Hickman... Does the "modern era" begin in 1900 or more like 1905??? :shrug:

Can anyone find a more complete list???

The definition of "modern" is completely arbitrary. Nothing happened in 1900 to make the baseball "modern". The way baseball was played in 1900 was the same as it was played in 1899.
