Stretch had two 39 HR seasons as well. He had as much HR power as anybody. But his prime seasons ran through the pitching dominated 1960's. Can you imagine a young and in his prime McCovey in today's game? Scary! If Ryan Howard and Adam Dunn can hit 40+ HRs every year...

When McCovey was at bat a guy would have to be scared out of his mind to play even with the bag at first base. Man that guy hit the ball hard. He used to hit some tape measure shots. Loved that guy. What a ball player. Seeing him in left field some years was kinda of a nightmare but they wanted Cepeda and McCovey in the lineup so one or the other had to play LF. Cepeda was an experiment in terror in left too.

Mc, I'm assuming you are talking about San Francisco Giants. If you go back to New York, Willie Mays actually did it six times... he also had 41 homers in '54 and 51 in '55 aside from your list. :beerbang:

(And if you consider that he hit 38 homers in '63 and 37 in '66... he came very close to doing it six years in a row!!!! )

If you go back to New York, you can also add Mel Ott to the list, who hit 42 homers in 1929. And Johnny Mize hit 51 dingers in '47 and 40 in '48.

One last thing...

If Bonds had done it in '98 (37) and '99 (34), he would have hit 40+ homers nine years in a row (from '96 to '04). Bonds hit at least 33 homers thirteen years in a row ('92 to '04), and at least 37 in all but one of those years. Damn. You can't tell me he was juiced that long!!!!
